Affiliate Network

The Chez Panisse Foundation is developing quality partnerships with a handful of programs to demonstrate that the Edible Schoolyard can take root anywhere. Our affiliates are located in a variety of settings, with diverse communities, climates, and funding sources. While our affiliates are not identical to the Berkeley program, they share our goal of instilling in children a lifelong appreciation of the connections between food, health, and the environment.

Impact

In 2005, the Chez Panisse Foundation helped found our first “sister” program, the Edible Schoolyard NOLA at the Samuel J. Green Charter School in New Orleans, Louisiana, marking the official launch of our affiliate network. Since that time, we have developed a small, structured affiliate network which now includes an after school program, charter schools, and a children’s museum at: The San Francisco Boys & Girls Club at the Willie Mays Clubhouse at Hunters Point, Larchmont Charter School in Los Angeles, and The Greensboro Children's Museum. Summer 2010 will see the establishment of our newest affiliate at the Arturo Toscanini Elementary School in Brooklyn.

Looking Ahead

In the coming years, we will continue to support our affiliates as they develop into model programs. Through cross-site research, technical assistance, evaluation, and communication, we will document best practices and make recommendations for policy change at the local, state, and national level. We are currently not accepting applications for our affiliate program. To learn more about our work, please attend our workshops, purchase or download our publications, or visit the Edible Schoolyard during our monthly public tour.
