The Edible Schoolyard at Greensboro Children’s Museum

Greensboro, North Carolina
Founded in 1999, the Greensboro Children’s Museum provides children with interactive educational experiences, with a strong focus on health and wellness. In the fall of 2006, the Museum contacted the Foundation regarding the conversion of an acre and a half of land into an educational organic garden modeled after the Edible Schoolyard. In addition to providing hands-on exhibits for daily visitors, the garden will address the challenges of growing food through humid summers and winter freezes and will provide a venue for summer camp, after-school, and weekend programs for children ages four through ten. Ultimately, the program will provide training, professional development, and educational support for parents and early childhood professionals. A capital campaign currently underway will support the launch of the Edible Schoolyard at Greensboro in late 2009. Learn more at www.gcmuseum.com.
