Director of Partnerships
The Chez Panisse Foundation is seeking a Director of Partnerships to manage our affiliate program and serve on the management team at the Foundation. The Chez Panisse Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded by Alice Waters in 1996. The Foundation develops and supports programs in the public schools that use food to educate, nurture, and empower youth to build a more sustainable future.

About the Affiliate Program
The Edible Schoolyard, a one-acre garden and kitchen classroom, is a program of the Chez Panisse Foundation. Two years ago, we launched an affiliate program to expand our reach and deepen our impact across the country. Affiliates use the Edible Schoolyard name, and we seek programs that share our values and are committed to using food as a way to nurture, educate and empower youth to build a more sustainable future. We are not using a "cookie cutter" approach to launch hundreds of affiliates, but rather we plan to have a reasonable number established over the next five to ten years to demonstrate that our idea of “edible education” can be implemented in different communities with different growing seasons and diverse funding sources. The Director of Partnerships will be responsible for managing this work and our growth strategy.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Manage affiliate relationships. Includes identifying potential affiliates; showing them our program; assessing the quality of their program and making recommendations to the board. Director would be responsible for establishing regular communication with affiliate project directors and organizing board or staff visits as needed.

  • Develop and implement a support strategy for affiliates. Includes designing technical assistance and/or professional development opportunities; and developing and disseminating best practices from our affiliates, and tools or other resources developed by the Foundation. Director will be responsible for creating an annual conference and developing a communications plan for program staff from each affiliate to learn from each other throughout the year.

  • Secure and manage grants related to affiliate program. Includes working with potential donors (foundations and individuals); writing and managing grants to fund the Director of Partnerships position, training programs, and/or other projects that would support affiliate programs; and connecting affiliates with resources, whether they are financial, human or in-kind.

  • Work with the Executive Director to develop a long-term strategy for the affiliate program. Includes creating goals to support the program over the next ten years, taking into account needs such as staffing, and fiscal resources.

  • Represent the Chez Panisse Foundation at conferences, speaking engagements and in the media. Be able to talk about our affiliate strategy, our affiliates and the work of the Chez Panisse Foundation with a variety of people.

  • Well-organized, with the ability to work at a fast pace, manage a variety of projects, multitask and prioritize

  • Self-confident, assertive, flexible, positive attitude under pressure, creative thinker
